Young woman sleeping comfortably after a chiropractic adjustment by Dr. Natasha Hayden of Clinique Chiropractique Hayden Inc.

You know you have slept comfortably when you wake up refreshed and alert. A good night’s sleep enhances our quality of life. Sleep plays a vital role in our health, repairing our heart and blood vessels, keeping our immune system healthy, reducing aches and pains, and promoting overall growth and development at all ages.

March 15th is World Sleep Day, and this year’s theme is Make Sleep Health a Priority. Establishing good sleep habits can help you get better, more restful sleep.

Recommendations for Good Sleep Habits

  • Go to bed and get up at the same time every day to establish a routine.
  • Be as physically active as your body permits.
  • Before sleeping, avoid strenuous exercise and light from a TV or computer screen.
  • Keep the bedroom quiet, dark, and cool.
  • Your pillow should keep the natural posture of your neck and support your spine.
  • A medium-firm mattress may be better for those with back pain.
  • Avoid heavy meals and excessive fluids close to bedtime.
  • Try to limit daytime napping to 30 minutes.
  • Pay attention to your sleeping position. Maintain the natural curve of your spine and ensure that your head, shoulders, and hips are in alignment.
World Sleep Day on March 15, 2025, has a theme: Make Sleep Health A Priority

Are you experiencing back or neck pain that makes sleeping difficult?

Consider chiropractic care to help you sleep more comfortably. We do NOT treat insomnia or other sleep disorders, but mechanical joint pain often has a negative impact on quality of sleep. Treatments at our clinic, Clinique Chiropractique Hayden Inc., may include spinal adjustments, joint mobilization, muscle release techniques, muscle stimulation, therapeutic exercises, and lifestyle changes.

A spinal adjustment is a mechanical method of introducing motion into a fixed or limited joint. It is essential to maintain the natural curve of your spine and ensure that your head, shoulders, and hips are aligned. Neck pain can make exercise more challenging, but keeping active when possible is typically suitable for the neck. We can recommend safe exercise methods and treatment for your back and neck pain.

Chiropractic for Pain Relief and Better Sleep

Chronic pain in the neck and back can cause discomfort when you are trying to get comfortable and sleep. To obtain a better sleep requires a certain level of comfortability, and pain often keeps the body from reaching a state of comfort. As a result, pain impacts your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Dr. Hayden diagnoses and treats patients with varying complaints, such as back and neck pain, headaches, extremity problems, and sports injuries, incorporating hands-on chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises, nutritional counselling and movement-based therapies as appropriate.

The successful implementation of chiropractic care in controlling chronic headaches since childhood inspired Natasha to pursue a career in chiropractic. She is excited to share her skills and knowledge to provide the whole family, from birth and beyond, with the skills necessary to overcome their injuries and achieve optimal health.

As a holistic medicine model, we form a health treatment plan tailored to achieve your health and wellness goals which ultimately leads to good sleep habits.

An initial appointment will include a thorough history and physical examination. If we determine that your condition will not benefit from chiropractic care, we will refer you to a healthcare professional, like Dr. Sheryl Guloy, PhD, who best suits your needs.
